Third week trot

My horse trot with a rider. Do you think the rider moves okay with the horse and not to fast.

Kyle Remus - Trot Update

Hi folks,

I'm having the craziest time with this trot. My biggest problem has been popping in the legs. It seems to be a balancing act between the translate 'y' of the root and the back and forth of the shoulders. But whenever I fix one aspect of the animation, it creates several more problems. I can't lower the root because it makes the limb popping more extreme. I can't raise the root because then the legs have this "hang time" as the leg control is positioned on the ground, but the leg is hyper extended (this is what's currently happening in my video below).

I think there's something fundamentally wrong with my trot to be creating these issues, I'm just not sure what it is at the moment. Any feedback is greatly appreciated :)

Jon Hanson - Start of Gallop

Hello everyone, I just started animating a gallop using the first few seconds of this reference:

And I got this bit of animation:
'
The problem is it feels weird looping, like it's not going to work the way I set it up. Is there something wrong with the reference or how I'm approaching it? I mean, it's kind of OK but I'm worried about it looping for a long time because there's nothing mathematically symmetrical about the loop. Any suggestions or am I just out of it today?

Any suggestions would be helpful because I'm not sure what to do right now as I'm not excited to polish animation that doesn't fit the necessary criteria.

AmpaBesigye_Adam_Gallop test

Hi Fellow Actors,

Hope ur all doing well. This another gallop i've done compared to what i did before. I haven't touched the tail for now. Am only focusing on the mechanical motion. Your feedback is highly appreciated. I would suggest looking at my previous gallop for comparison purposes.

Thank you,
Adam

Jon Hanson Trot - Week 2

Hey everyone, a little late, but here's my trot cycle for this week.

Still more pops than I would like, but it's coming along. I see why people don't use this rig more than once...
Good luck in the coming week everyone!

Henry Sanchez Dual monitor RAGE (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

Crap my Outliner (or other window) is stuck on my 2nd monitor which I don't have right now?!

 for ($window in `lsUI -windows`) { window -e -tlc 0 0 $window ; }

This line of code will push all maya windows onto the primary monitor's top-left corner.

An Nguyen-how to fix the QCTF.dll file

If you are having the issue with Quicktime as last time i mentioned in class, this should fix it:

1. Turn off all the video programs (best that you turn off all the running programs)
2. Go to your Quicktime folder   C:\Program Files (x86)\QuickTime\QTSystem  ,or whatever folder you install your Quicktime in.
3. In the QTsystem folder cut your QCTF.dll file onto your desktop (so there should be no other QCTF.dll file in your Quicktime folder)
4. Go to Control Panel, Program Features, and do a repair install for Quicktime
5. Go to the Quicktime folder, check if there is another QCTF.dll file in there. If there is then do step 6
6. Delete the QCTF.dll file on your desktop

This works for me so i think it'll work for other computers. Good luck!

The first progress

Hello everyone

This is my first progress horse trotting.
I know I need to do head animation, offset body, and fixed lots of thing. haha

My first run on the horse trot. Would appreciate comments.

AmpaBesigye_Adam_(CY)_Offsets.

Hi Animators,

Hope your all fine. At this stage in my process, I've address notes given to me by Mr. David Latour in class, Off seted the hips from the chest and added animation in the neck and head. I also fixed issues I had with the legs earlier on in the process. Your feedback is very welcome. Thank you

Have fun animating,
Adam.

Jon Hanson - Week 1 Trot

Hey everyone, just wanted to show my first weeks work:
Feeling robotic and I'm not sure about the the lift off on the feet even though I'm following pretty much exactly the spacing in the video. Just feels like he's lifting off too slow. Also feel like I'm getting some pops, especially when the you have fairly radical changes on the model that don't look that wild in the reference.

My first time animal. Comments Please!!!
Thank You!!!

Here's my first pass of the trot cycle. This was more complicated than I first thought!

Mike Kersey - TrotFirstPass

Quicktime keeps dropping the last 2 frames on my videos for some reason, so this gets jumpy.  But here's the first pass at the trot cycle.

An_Issue with Movie Reference

So this has been driving me crazy since the afternoon and i dont know how it happens. Whenever i tried to put in a video into Maya in the Image plane, it said that the QCTF.dll file is missing and it is a Quicktime file i think. It told me to reinstalled the program, Maya or Quicktime im not sure, so i reinstalled both of them and it s still saying the same thing and it automatically changed my video file's size from 10 MB (or whatever size after i converted the videos from MP4 to MOV to put into Maya) to 10 or 30kb and it also messed up my playbasts :((. The program worked well yesterday when i opened it.
Has anyone had this problem before? If you know please tell me how to fix it ASAP and thank you very much since i'm stuck on my assignment. I'm going to try something out but i dont know if that s going to help.

Mendel Reis - Well well..

Hey Guys! how are you doing!?

SO I'm having some trouble with maya `13 and the horse.... Maya keeps crashing every once in a while...  I just wanted to know if that's happening with everybody or just me... maybe it's a maya version issue or so....

Kyle Remus - Trot

Hi folks. Here's my trot so far. I'm going off the reference provided on this blog and within the rig's files - but I'm still unhappy with it's current state...snapping in the legs, a little too stiff as well. But any other thoughts would be appreciated :)

INSTRUCTOR POST - Welcome New Students

Welcome to the AAU Spring Semester of 2013

This is a persistent online site I use to allow students in my class to solicit and offer feedback on their animation. There are a few important notes;

1. Conduct yourself here as you would in the class. Play nice with others and be supportive and constructive with your comments. Limit the posting to information relevant to the class.

2. I use participation here as part of your class participation mark. Participation accounts for 20% of your total grade! If you're shy this is a great way to be involved in the classroom discussion. You get points for posting your work or for giving feedback on other people’s animation. Bonus question: ask me how to get 100% on your participation grade.

3. Title each post with your name, for example: “David Latour: Blocking Pass 1”. Your blogger ID may not be something I recognize.  You don't want to miss out on participation marks when you post here.

4. This blog is as helpful as you make it. Be active with comments, post your work regularly and take advantage of this venue. Monitor this site at least once a week. I will use this as a forum to make general announcements and answer common questions, so you don't want to miss out. Any post from me will have "INSTRUCTOR POST - ..." in the title: make sure you read them carefully.

Even If you're new to blogging you'll find this a pretty painless and straightforward process. If you have something from class you'd like to show, use the following steps:
·         Playblast your work (16:9 ratio, 640x360, convert to .mov, with H264 compression)
·         Post the movie file on any video streaming site (YouTube, Vimeo)
·          Copy the “embed HTML” from the streaming site
·         In blogger click "new post" on the upper right corner of the screen and click on the "edit HTML" tab on the top right of the new post and paste the code in the window.

5. Blogger works best with Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. If you have technical issues: try switching your browser. Make sure you login with the Google ID that you were invited with or you won’t be able to post or comment.

Every time someone adds a new post or comments on an existing one, I get a direct email. I try to look in here regularly and offer critique and guidance as well. This blog will be available to you as space allows, which means you will be able to continue posting here after the end of term. (You may even see former students offering feedback here.)

Welcome to the blog and have a great time.

*Your first assignment:  Post your name in the comments of this welcome message with a sentence or two about what you hope to learn in this class.
