Fox Brandyn
I just came across this video of a horse gallop on a treadmill. I thought it might be useful to others, plus it's pretty cool.

INSTRUCTOR POST - Welcome to AAU Fall Semester 2016
Welcome to the AAU Fall Semester of 2016
There are hidden instructions in this post to test if you read it entirely!
There are also 2 intentional typos - cookie points to you if you find them!
There are also 2 intentional typos - cookie points to you if you find them!
This is a persistent online site I use to allow students in my class to solicit and offer feedback on their animation. There are a few important notes;
1. This blog is as helpful as you make it. Be active with comments, post your work regularly and take advantage of this venue. Monitor this site at least once a week. I will use this as a forum to make general announcements and answer common questions, so you don't want to miss out. Any post from me will have "INSTRUCTOR POST - ..." in the title: make sure you read them carefully.
2. I use participation here as part of your class participation mark. Participation accounts for 20% of your total grade! If you're shy this is a great way to be involved in the classroom discussion. You get points for posting your work or for giving feedback on other people’s animation. Bonus question: ask me right now how to get 100% on your participation grade!
3. Title each post with your name, for example: “David Latour: Blocking Pass 1”. Your blogger ID may not be something I recognize. You don't want to miss out on participation marks when you post here. Qwigybo!
4. Conduct yourself here as you would in the class. Play nice with others and be supportive and constructive with your comments. Limit the posting to information relevant to the class.
Even If you're new to blogging you'll find this a pretty painless and straightforward process. If you have something from class you'd like to show, use the following steps:
- Playblast your work (16:9 ratio, 960x540, convert to .mov, with H264 compression)
- Click the 'insert a video' button and browse to your movie file.
- Be sure to put your first name in the post title.
- You're done!
- continue reading to see how you can adjust your video size to fit nicely on the page.
- also, here are additional instructions to share video from another site
- Post the movie file on any video streaming site (YouTube, Vimeo)
- Copy the “embed HTML” from the streaming site
- In blogger click "new post" on the upper right corner of the screen and click on the "edit HTML" tab on the top right of the new post and paste the code in the window. (You can edit the html so that the video size is 600 x 337, to fit nicely within the blog interface.)
5. Blogger works best with Mozilla Firefox, or Google Chrome. If you have technical issues: try switching your browser. Make sure you login with the Google ID that you were invited with or you won’t be able to post or comment. Scarmfargle.
6. Check out SyncSketch: a great tool for posting your work and getting feedback. We're going to make use of this handy website occasionally through the term.
Every time someone adds a new post or comments on an existing one, I get a direct email. I try to look in here regularly and offer critique and guidance as well. This blog will be available to you as space allows, which means you will be able to continue posting here after the end of term. (You may even see former students offering feedback here.)

Carlos Moreno Week 15
Although it went unfinished, I learned a lot of stuff relating to doing an IK style movement with the neck with FK controllers. Took an annoyingly long time, but now I'm pretty confident in how to do it now. I also figured out how to do realistic wing flaps while flying, landing, and in place. I also learned that my workflow of working slowly but paying attention is more valuable than trying to work quickly. Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Lastly, I had a lot of questions regarding doing my own minor rig adjustments to this piece, and feel that rigging should be learned by all animators to a fairly deep level.
Nick V Creature Week 15
My attempt at lighting a scene through playblasting. Also the image plane may be more distracting than anything. Things to look for: 2nd to last and last hop, mostly the ending, the dive bomb over, and foot shapes.

Merisia G.// CA Wk14 Update
I decided to change the camera angle and take the lizard out of the scene from before, and still needs work and polishing. Let me know any feedback you have for me. Thanks.

Nick V Week 14
Last part is a little wonky and I need to find good reference for it. It feels like a bird of a heavier weight.

Nick V Creature Pass
Head is still a bit wonky. Feet need some work in posing. Still can't figure out motion blur. No real detail work on wings yet.

LOOK: Cool Tools
For those who learned about spacing by creating your line of action in 2D (drawn) and wondered if there was a way in maya: there's a way to do it by using the drop down menu > animate > create editable motion trail. HOWEVER, it's not a very intuitive tool, and it's pretty robust. Corey (the lab tech) showed me this: Cool Motion Path Tool!
Nick V Creature Pass 3
Here's my 3rd pass. Head still needs tweaking. Had some trouble with the speed of the 'glide' over. Looking for more of a dive bomb feel.

INSTRUCTOR POST - Dave = sick. No class tomorrow
I have the flu and I just don't like to share. Sorry. Class will be rescheduled.

Carlos Moreno Creature Animation 2nd Pass Blocking
Where I'm at in the shot: There is more to the shot, but focusing on these frames at the moment. I'm debating closing the wings first, then ducking, closing them as he goes down and reopening, or closing them after he ducks. A friend suggested having him go on all fours instead of all this, and leap to flap up instead of what I have. At the end the big flap lift off is not perfectly time because I was focusing on all the actions going on before that. Also, curls haven't been added to the wings.
Welton Yang Week9
This is Welton Yang week 9, First layout, waiting for your opinion, what happened here in this shot? I will up data by the time~ Thank you~!

Camille - Attaching a rider
Here I have recordings of David's demo on how to attach a rider to the horse in case anybody missed it. Sorry if the quality is messy, I don't have the time to go over these videos, hopefully someday David could make another write up of these steps or a demo recording of his own ;)

Jasmin Guinn. Trot Cycle Week 1
Hi,
Here's my trot cycle for week 1. I watched the tutorial videos and got a little confused because it's more like a "gallop" instead of a trot but I just stuck with the slower pace so hope that's okay. Hopefully I did it correctly too.
